Tourism is a major tool for countries, not
only to expand their culture and heritage, but it also helps that countries
economy. One way of promoting tourism is by hosting big events, such as
political, musical or sports.
Tourism provides jobs
to the community, such as tour guides or hotel housekeeping. It also creates
indirect employment, generated through other industries such as agriculture,
food production, and retail. Money spent by visitors generates income for
the local community and can help decrease poverty in countries, which are
heavily dependant on tourism. Infrastructure developments such as
airports, roads, schools, hospitals, and retail areas have the potential to
benefit the local community.
In Chile, for example, we had the
"Copa America" this year and this event brought many benefits.
According to Luis Felipe Céspedes, Minister of the Economy, more than $50 million
dollars were spent by the nearly 70.000. He also declared that there was a 30%
increase in foreign tourist arrivals compared with June 2014.
Major events that are than
the right way can bring big benefits to a country. The government have to be
willing to invest on this kind of events to make profit. Invest on infrastructure
and in Green areas and more and more tourists will feel the need to visit that
country. Also, a real commitment has to be made in favour of preserving the
natural heritage and the culture of the country because these are the attractions
that make that specific country unique.
