Goverments and major events

Tourism is a major tool for countries, not only to expand their culture and heritage, but it also helps that countries economy. One way of promoting tourism is by hosting big events, such as political, musical or sports.

Tourism provides jobs to the community, such as tour guides or hotel housekeeping. It also creates indirect employment, generated through other industries such as agriculture, food production, and retail. Money spent by visitors generates income for the local community and can help decrease poverty in countries, which are heavily dependant on tourism. Infrastructure developments such as airports, roads, schools, hospitals, and retail areas have the potential to benefit the local community.

In Chile, for example, we had the "Copa America" this year and this event brought many benefits. According to Luis Felipe Céspedes, Minister of the Economy, more than $50 million dollars were spent by the nearly 70.000. He also declared that there was a 30% increase in foreign tourist arrivals compared with June 2014.

Major events that are than the right way can bring big benefits to a country. The government have to be willing to invest on this kind of events to make profit. Invest on infrastructure and in Green areas and more and more tourists will feel the need to visit that country. Also, a real commitment has to be made in favour of preserving the natural heritage and the culture of the country because these are the attractions that make that specific country unique.

Tourism

Tourism brings a lot of benefits to a country not only economically but forces a country to focus on maintaining there natural attractions intact.

Tourism brings stability to the town. More jobs will be needed if real commitment is taken. Tour guides, hotel staff, coach services and restaurants. This businesses not only pay wages to their staff, but source goods and products locally, giving a boost to local industry. You have the money that is spent directly by tourists in the economy.

To promote tourism, a country must ensure that locations or destinations that people travel to see are well taken care of. The local authorities must commit to ensure that the natural attractions are well preserve. Natural attractions, landscapes, cultural heritage sites, all should be properly maintain to promote and appeal tourists for years to come.

Tourism helps not only economically buy creating job opportunities but also it encourages local authorities to help preserve there attractions in orden for people to continue being interested.

Blog N°10

As future english teacher we need to know how to talk and how to write properly. I thought that thanks to my school years and because of my familie I would have no problem on those things. I was completely wrong. My writing was horrible, I thought that I knew how to right a simple sentence but after my first blog I realized that I have a long way to go. Class after class we learned the common mistakes people make and class after class we learned how to fix them. I learned how to compose a well-structured paragraph. I started to introduce what we learned in class into my weekly blog. For me the classes were fun but sometimes we got stucked in something and werent learning at the pace we wanted or needed. This was not the teachers fault, miss Neha is a really fun and really cared and wanted us to do well. I know I always annoyed her but it was al for fun, I actually like and respect her, she is a cool teacher and she had a lot of patience with me, even though she gave me a lot of stikes. I really appreciate all she did for me, all she taught as is essential in being a good english teacher.

Blog Entry Nº7

Being a teacher is one of the most important jobs you could have. You are building the future generations. For this you need to be prepared for anything and to posses certain skills.

A teacher is a person that needs to know a little about everything, it a person kids look up to and that they see as someone they can learn from. A teacher needs to be a role model in the class, they need to be a good example. Kids spend 8 hours with teacher from Monday to Friday so how they behave in front of them is very important.

One skill that is very important for a teacher to have is empathy. A teacher needs to be able to put himself on the students position. A teacher needs to understand that a student is not always at his best, that he or she may be having problems and as a teacher one needs to be able to help him or her. You need to guide them to the future, you are the road that takes them all the way to the end.

Teachers are not valued as much as they should, they are not appreciate and are look down upon. But people do not realize that without teacher there would be no one with a job, teachers build and prepare students for whats to come, and for that, we should be thankful.

Blog Post N°6

3 years ago I left high school and went to University to start a new life and to enter my last years as a student. For many people high school are the best years of someones life and in a way they are, but if you ask me, University is gonna be so much better.

I spent 4 years in high school, 2 years at The Grange School and the other 2 at Saint Andrews School. The first 2 years for me were not very good, in a personal and academic way. I wasnt very popular at The Grange, the people that I thought to be my friends disappear the moment I change schools. Academically speaking, I whas at my worst, I flunk almost every course, so changing schools was a welcome change. At Saint Andrews I found frinds for life, the people that I know will be there for me, always, are from this school. I also improved my marks, a lot, I wasnt the best but I did better than expected, those were the 2 best years of high school.

My first year of University was back in 2012. I first study psicology and it was good and bad. I made many friends, some more important than others. I felt welcome and comfortable. But academically speaking I was back to my firts two years of high schoo. I flunk every single class, I never really made the change from school to college, I never took college seriously and my marks showed it.

Its safe to say that for my there were not many diferences between hogh school and college, I acted the same, the only diference was that I was free to go when ever I wanted. You had more freedom but more responsabilities, and at my first year I failed to take that responsability.

Planet Earth needs water and air to sustain life, to sustain us, but it is us that is destroying these resources that are so important. Air pollution is a big problem now and we are the main cause of this problem.

Air pollution ocurres when the air contains an extreme amount of gases, dust, fumes or odour amounts. This amount could be harmfull for humans, animals and plants. Its a mixture of solid particules and gases. Car emissions, chemicals from factories, dust, pollen and mold spores may be suspended as particles. Ozone, a gas, is a major part of air pollution in cities. When ozone forms air pollution, it's also called smog. People with heart or lung disease, older adults and children are at greater risk from air pollution.

There are many ways to reduce air pollution, reducing the amaount of dangerous gases is essential for doing this. Using the public transport or bicycles is a way of doing so. Less cars means less toxic gases. Recycling also helps in a big way. When we burn garbage it harm the ozone layer and produce harmful gases which can lead to respiratory diseases like cough and asthma, among others. It also helps preserve are natural resources. The amount of trees we cut is dangerous, we need to stop this before we run out of natural resources.

In conclusion we need to take notice and do something, take responsibility for our actions and realice that we are the cause of the problem and that we are the ones with a solution. Air pollution is a big problem and we are the only ones that can stop it.

Blog Post N°3 - Paragraph Writing Assesment

I know many people who I get along with, who I can go out with and have fun. I like to get along with everyone. But that doesnt mean that they are all my friends. Im very especific on what I want on a friend and not many people have what I want on a friend.

A friend should be a person you trust, someone you could tell anything without worring that he will tell anyone. Trust, for me is essencial in a friendship. If I cant trust you with a secret then I dont want you as a friend. Trust for me is something that you earn.

A friend is also someone that is alway there for you, in good and bad times, someone that can make me laugh when I want to cry or to just listen to me. For me a friend should always be supportive but also honest with you. He is the person that I can always trust that is telling me the truth and helping me.

Im very luky to have people in my life that fit my expectations. I can always count on them to tell me the truth, to help me, to pick me up when Im down, to do crazy things with me that I would normaly would do and even if we fight I know that I can count on him no matter what.

Blog Post N2- Free Topic

Hello everyone.

In 2010 I traveld to Europe for my school trip, we went to many countries, but the one who caught more my attention was Holland, more specifically Amsterdam. That's were I notice that the culture was so much different that the one we have here in Chile, things that are not allowed in our country are not only legal there, but they also encourage you do them.

In Chile, marihuana is an illegal drug that, if you sell it or are in possession of it, you could face serious jail time. For years people are trying to make it legal, with no success because the goverment does not belive that doing so would do any good. But society uses the example of Amsterdam as a society that has found that legalising marihuana has not done any negative impact.

That was the thing that shocked me the most about that cultured, that many think it is an advanced one, but others a bad thing for the people.

Blog Post Nº1 - Autobiography

Hello class

My name is Felipe Gatica Pettersen and this is my blog.

I was born in Santiago Chile on November 4th 1992. I am the middle child, I have an older sister and the rest are my brothers. I live with my two parents, my dad is an engineer and my mom is a teacher at the Grange School.

I started school a year later than usual so I was always the oldest one at class. I attended the Grange School for all my life just like all my siblings. I was a very shy boy who had trouble making friends and did not do well at school.

When I ended school I started studying psychology at Universidad Gabriela Mistral but after 2 years I decided that psychology was not for me so I quit college and decided  I wanted to be a teacher so I took the PSU again.

Im a very shy person at first but when you get to know me I can be very fun to be around.
